We have extensive experience and expertise in panic attack treatment. We have worked with clients in successfully treating panic attacks arising in a variety of contexts.

Panic attacks are periods of intense fear or apprehension with a sudden onset and have variable durations. Panic attacks typically begin abruptly, and may reach a peak within 15 minutes, but they may continue for hours in some cases.

Panic Attack Symptoms

Panic attack symptoms examples are: palpitations and/or accelerated heart rate, sweating trembling or shaking, sensations of shortness of breath or being smothered, feeling of choking, chest pain or discomfort, nausea or abdominal distress, feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint, feelings of unreality or being detached from oneself, fear of losing control or going insane, sense of impending death, numbness or tingling sensations, chills or hot flashes, and tunnel and blurry vision as blood flows less to the head area and more to other areas of the body.

In situations where panic attacks have previously occurred, panic attack sufferers often experience significant anxiety in anticipation of the next panic attack. This is known as the anticipatory anxiety, and this can lead  to a feedback loop that may trigger a panic attack.

The effects of a panic attack vary. First-time sufferers may call (or think of calling) emergency services as they fear they are having a heart attack or a nervous breakdown. Moreover, fear of impending death or loss of sanity are not uncommon psychological themes associated with panic attacks.

Panic Attack Triggers

One of the steps in our panic attack treatment is the identification the panic attack triggers, which vary depending on the case. Examples of triggers could be a phobia or a fear of an outcome. For instance, panic attacks during exams can arise when the student might have excessive fear of failing in an exam, or the imagined consequences of an exam failure. Paradoxically, such fear of failure can trigger a panic attack which can then impact the student physiological and memory capabilities that could then prevent him/her to even write down his/her answers and to recollect material that he/she would know in his/her normal calmer state. The student could then under-perform or even fail her/his exam.

Our centre uses multi-pronged therapy approaches including hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, EFT and EMDR to help guide our clients to manage OCD symptoms, release the hold of OCD thoughts, and improve the overall quality of their lives.

Our approach to panic attack treatment focuses on the root causes of panic attacks: the subconscious, the past events or habits that to the panic attack disorder, the identification of triggers, and the re-training of the mind and the subconscious to unseat the past habits/fears from the client’s memory or the implementation of new healthier habits in the client’s mind and subconscious.
